Artist Robert The has been turning the printed word into facsimiles of weapons since 1995. His choice of books have purposefully ironic titles or subject matter when handcarved into the shape of handguns.

He states "Obsession with the semiotic erosion of meaning and reality led me to create objects that evangelize their own relevance by a direct fusion of word and form. Books (many culled from dumpsters and thrift store bins) are lovingly vandalized back to life so they can assert themselves against the culture which turned them into debris." - Robert The, 1995




In addition to taking well known novels such as J.D. Salinger's Catcher In the Rye (above) and academic texts and turning them into pistols made of pages, Robert has a series of bibles he's turned into different weapons as well.






Undoubtedly his turning bibles into guns and grenades will get most people up in arms, so to speak, but that's kind of the point.

Retro 80's Items Made Entirely Out of Cut Paper by Zim and Zou.

Thanks to an interview in Don't Panic, I've discovered the paper crafts of Zim and Zou, aka Thibault Zimmermann and Lucie Thomas.



The French Graphic Design studio proposes a contemporary approach of design thanks to a mix of different fields such as paper sculpture, installation, graphic design and illustration.



Their latest project, Back to Basics, uses bright colorful paper crafted into icons from the 80's such as Polaroid cameras, giant clunky Motorola phones, floppy disks, Sony Walkman, casettes and more.

Meet Nikki Salk and Amy Flurry. Nikki is an artist and fashion blogger, Amy is a freelance writer, editor and stylist. In January, 2010 the two women founded the Paper-Cut-Project, a company that conceives art direction and highly crafted installations in paper for window installations, runway, catalog and advertising campaigns.



Flurry and Salk describe their custom made paper art installations as "fueled by a love of fashion and an appreciation of the grace and nuance of this humble material"

They have designed installations and window displays for chic stores like Jeffrey New York and Atlanta and an exclusive collection of animals for Hermes.
